Before there was a library, there was Don Santos who lived here for 40 years, planting and caring for mango, grapefruit, lemon and mamon trees and coffee bushes.
Guided by a local crew, an international brigade of volunteers spent a week in La Chispa, helping to facilitate the initial foundation forming and brick-laying processes, as well as restoring some of the materials from the original house for future use...
Then Antonio Castro Urbina's local crew took over to finish the majority of the work.
Finishing Touches...Doors, Windows and Furniture-- all hand-made in Matagalpa
A little volunteer paint effort....and voila.... the library was built.
